School Librarian

About the role

The School Librarian will support GEMS Education’s commitment to academic excellence by managing the school library’s resources, assisting students and staff in locating appropriate materials, and fostering a love of reading across all age groups.

Key responsibilities

• Assist students in selecting books that match their reading level and interests.
• Maintain borrowing records, issue reminders for overdue items, and communicate with parents as needed.
• Develop age‑appropriate reading lists and teach students library navigation, including the Dewey Decimal system.
• Collaborate with Heads of Department to plan annual book orders and manage periodical subscriptions.
• Process orders, receive deliveries, and catalogue new acquisitions using digital systems.
• Repair, withdraw, and manage the audiovisual collection and ensure the library environment is welcoming and well‑organized.
• Supervise library support staff and volunteers, providing training on procedures.
• Maintain examination and career‑related materials and ensure compliance with GEMS policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Education or a related field.
• Proven experience as a librarian, preferably in a school or educational setting in the UAE.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
