School Librarian - Primary & Secondary

About the role

The School Librarian manages the school library, fosters a love of reading and supports students and teachers through access to educational resources. The librarian keeps the library an effective learning space, promotes literacy programmes and integrates technology to improve research and learning. The position is full time, with a work schedule aligned to the academic calendar.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain an organised, up-to-date collection of books, digital resources and reference materials, and develop library policies, procedures and borrowing systems.
• Classify, catalogue and label new materials according to standard library practice, and keep the library well maintained and welcoming.
• Help students build research and information literacy skills and guide them in using library databases and digital tools.
• Recommend instructional resources to teachers and organise book fairs, reading programmes and literacy initiatives.
• Update digital library systems such as e-books and online research tools, and teach students how to access and evaluate digital information.
• Record library transactions, overdue books and resource usage statistics, and develop the library budget and manage procurement of books and resources.
• Stay current with educational trends and library technologies, and collaborate with teachers and administrators.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science or a related field, or a Bachelor's or Master's in English with experience teaching and managing a library.
• Previous experience as a librarian, preferably in a school setting.
• Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for literacy, education and working with students.
• Familiarity with UAE educational policies and curriculum is an advantage.
