Second Watchkeeping Engineer – Dredger

About the role

The Second Watchkeeping Engineer will be responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the vessel’s main and auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors and related dredging machinery. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, you will ensure all equipment is maintained to manufacturer, class and flag standards while supporting the dredger’s operational objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain main engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors and associated machinery.
• Assist the Chief Engineer in overall Engine Room management and coordination with technical teams.
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical and auxiliary equipment.
• Monitor machinery performance, fuel consumption, lubrication and cooling systems.
• Maintain accurate engine‑room logs, maintenance records and technical documentation.
• Supervise engine‑room ratings and provide clear instructions during maintenance and operational activities.
• Support bunkering, fuel transfer, machinery trials and emergency response procedures.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, SMS, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class and Flag State requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in marine or mechanical engineering.
• Certified as a 2nd Engineer in accordance with STCW regulations.
• Basic and advanced STCW trainings.
• Medical fitness certificate as required by ILO/MLC.
