Senior Avian Curator

About the role

Miral Experiences is seeking a Senior Avian Curator to lead the strategic direction, management and development of its avian collection. The role combines animal welfare oversight, conservation breeding, staff leadership and collaboration with global zoological partners, based in Al Ain.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for all avian programs, ensuring animal welfare, husbandry, nutrition, enrichment and behavioral management meet international best practice.
• Oversee collection planning, acquisitions, transfers, breeding and population sustainability, working with regional and international studbook keepers and conservation partners.
• Develop, mentor and manage supervisors, senior keepers, keepers, trainers, interns and volunteers, fostering professional growth and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with Veterinary Services, Nutrition, Facilities, Education and Guest Experience teams to integrate avian care across the institution.
• Lead exhibit design, capital projects, accreditation initiatives and risk‑management programs, ensuring safety and compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, Veterinary Science or a related field.
• Extensive leadership experience in managing zoological bird collections within an AZA, EAZA, SEAZA, WAZA, ZAA, BIAZA or similar accredited institution.
• Proven expertise in animal welfare assessment, population management, conservation breeding, behavioral management and budgeting.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans and lead multidisciplinary teams.
