Senior Backend and Platform Engineer

About the role

Udrive builds scalable platforms for vehicle sharing, subscription services, fleet management, IoT connectivity, payments and customer experiences. It is looking for a Senior Backend and Platform Engineer in Dubai who takes full ownership of the systems they build. The role is primarily hands-on backend engineering, with additional responsibility for deploying, maintaining and optimizing applications in production; it is not a traditional DevOps position focused mainly on infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance backend applications in Python and FastAPI, including RESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven apps and asynchronous code.
• Build integrations with third-party APIs, payment gateways, IoT systems and external services, and implement authentication, authorization and data validation.
• Design PostgreSQL schemas, write optimized SQL queries, handle migrations and work with Redis caching.
• Build distributed services with messaging systems such as NATS, RabbitMQ or Kafka, and implement retries, timeouts and idempotency.
• Deploy and maintain applications on AWS, containerize with Docker, configure CI/CD pipelines and manage reverse proxies (Nginx, Traefik).
• Monitor application health, set up logging, metrics, tracing and alerting, and troubleshoot production issues.
• Take end-to-end ownership of backend services, collaborate with other teams, review code, identify technical debt and mentor engineers.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial hands-on backend development.
• Production experience building backend applications with FastAPI or a comparable Python framework.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, indexing and query optimization.
• Experience deploying and operating applications on AWS, with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfortable with Linux servers and production environments; troubleshooting across application, database and infrastructure layers.
• Ability to independently design, develop, debug and deliver production-ready services.
