Senior Charge Nurse – Operating Room

About the role

The Senior Charge Nurse – Operating Room supports the Nurse Manager in delivering high‑quality, safe, and compassionate patient care around the clock. This role coordinates staffing, resources, and clinical activities to ensure smooth operation of the operating suite.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs in the operating room.
• Work with the Nurse Manager to match patient load with appropriate staffing and skill mix.
• Monitor staff performance, provide feedback, coaching and support during shifts.
• Coordinate efficient use of human resources, consumables and equipment.
• Collaborate with pharmacy services to meet medication requirements.
• Respond to emergencies according to organizational policies.
• Facilitate communication between patients, families and the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, family meetings and performance‑improvement projects.
• Identify learning needs, mentor new staff and assist with educational activities.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment and oversee emergency delegation.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in patient assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
• Ability to ensure appropriate staffing, skill mix and safe practice.
• Experience providing constructive feedback and coaching to nursing staff.
• Capability to monitor resources and support optimal patient outcomes.
• Strong collaboration skills with pharmacy, medical teams and interdisciplinary partners.
• Willingness to participate in emergency response and quality‑improvement initiatives.
