About the role

The Senior Curator of Primates provides strategic leadership and oversight for the institution’s primate collection and associated programs. This senior position ensures the highest international zoological standards for animal welfare, conservation, research, and visitor engagement while supporting the broader mission of Miral Experiences.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead planning, management, and long‑term development of all primate programs, including husbandry, welfare, enrichment, nutrition, and habitat utilization.
  • Develop and implement collection strategies such as acquisitions, transfers, breeding programs, demographic planning, and population sustainability.
  • Collaborate with regional and international species coordinators, studbook keepers, and conservation organizations to support ex‑situ population sustainability.
  • Mentor and develop supervisors, senior keepers, trainers, interns, and volunteers, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Work closely with Veterinary Services, Animal Welfare, Nutrition, Conservation, Facilities, Education, Research, and Guest Experience teams to ensure integrated program management.
  • Provide specialist input for exhibit design, capital projects, operational planning, and accreditation processes.
  • Maintain operational safety and risk management for the primate section, implementing safety systems, emergency procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Represent the institution at conferences, professional associations, and conservation forums, supporting field partnerships and scientific research.

Required profile

  • Master’s degree in Zoology, Primatology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, Veterinary Science, Animal Behaviour, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience leading primate programs within accredited zoological institutions.
  • Experience managing diverse primate collections, complex social groups, breeding programs, and welfare‑focused management systems.
  • Previous work within AZA, EAZA, WAZA, SEAZA, BIAZA, ZAA, or similarly accredited institutions.
  • Desirable: doctoral degree or other advanced professional qualification.
