Senior Engineer (C&E) - RF Signal Processing Software

About the role

Advanced Concepts, part of EDGE, develops advanced technologies including autonomous systems such as high-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles, loitering munitions, cruise missiles and guided artillery munitions. It is looking for a Senior Engineer (C&E) to build embedded software for RF systems, including signal processing for data links.

Key responsibilities

• Implement OSI Layer 1 and Layer 2 radio for microcontrollers or FPGAs
• Develop embedded software for RF systems, including signal processing for data links
• Write device drivers and low-level software for RF chipsets and modules
• Develop and maintain bare-metal firmware for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and RTOS-based firmware
• Integrate communication protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, CAN and Ethernet in Linux and microcontroller environments
• Design and generate board support packages, write code reviews and follow coding standards
• Analyse and improve RF system performance in throughput, latency, power consumption and signal quality
• Build Linux images (Yocto, FreeRTOS), use Git or SVN, and implement Linux drivers, kernel modules and client/server stacks over UDP, TCP or IP
• Test and troubleshoot software and hardware, and mentor junior engineers

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, communications, electronics or software engineering
• Minimum 8 years of experience in embedded software engineering
• Understanding of RF principles, including modulation, coding and signal processing
• Experience with RF hardware such as transceivers, power amplifiers and antennas
• Ability to design efficient algorithms for real-time RF systems and to work independently on multiple projects
