Senior Engineer - RF Signal Processing Software

About the role

ADVANCED CONCEPTS, an entity within EDGE, designs and deploys advanced technologies, including autonomous systems such as medium endurance high-altitude fixed-wing UAVs, loitering munitions, cruise missiles and guided artillery munitions. It is looking for a Senior Engineer in RF signal processing software, based in Abu Dhabi.

Key responsibilities

• Implement OSI Layer 1 and Layer 2 radio for microcontroller or FPGA-based operation
• Develop embedded software for RF systems, including signal processing for data links
• Write device drivers and low-level software for RF chipsets and modules
• Develop and maintain bare-metal firmware for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and RTOS firmware
• Integrate communication protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, CAN and Ethernet in Linux and microcontroller environments
• Design and generate board support packages, build Linux images (Yocto, FreeRTOS) and implement Linux drivers and kernel modules
• Analyse and improve RF system performance in throughput, latency, power consumption and signal quality
• Participate in code reviews, follow coding standards and use version control (Git or SVN)
• Test and troubleshoot software and hardware, and mentor junior engineers

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, communications, electronics or software engineering
• Minimum 8 years of experience in embedded software engineering
• Strong understanding of ARM and Cortex-M architectures and RF principles (modulation, coding, signal processing)
• Experience with RF hardware such as transceivers, power amplifiers and antennas
• Ability to design efficient algorithms for real-time RF systems and to work independently on multiple projects
