Senior Fluids Engineer – Drilling Fluids Specialist

About the role

The Senior Fluids Engineer leads technical and operational aspects of drilling fluids, solids control and waste management for exploration, appraisal and development wells. The role owns the fluids Basis of Design, drives cost‑effective solutions and ensures HSE compliance throughout the well lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Support and promote company HSE policies, conduct rig‑side risk assessments and verify environmental compliance for fluids and waste activities.
• Prepare and own fluids sections of Basis of Design documents, detailed Drilling Fluids Programs and Recommended Practices for various well types.
• Design fluid systems for challenges such as H₂S management, fractured carbonates, shale inhibition, underbalanced or managed‑pressure drilling, and LCM strategies.
• Manage tendering, evaluation and performance of contractors delivering drilling fluids, solids control and waste management services.
• Monitor daily fluid parameters, ensure they stay within programmed limits and communicate issues to drilling superintendents and well engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement and cost optimisation, support cost estimates, Bills of Quantities and commercial evaluations for fluids and waste scopes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Geology or a related discipline.
• 12–15 years of progressive fluids‑related experience, including at least 5 years in a senior or coordinating role.
• Experience in sour‑gas/high‑H₂S carbonate environments, preferably in the Middle East or Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
