Senior Highway Design Engineer

About the role

The Senior Highway Design Engineer will lead the technical delivery of highway design packages across all project stages for major infrastructure projects in Dubai. The role combines engineering leadership, multidisciplinary coordination, mentoring of junior staff, and direct client engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead geometric and detailed design of major highway projects, ensuring compliance with RTA, Dubai Municipality, AASHTO and international standards.
• Develop innovative engineering solutions, conduct value‑engineering studies and optimise designs.
• Review and approve calculations, drawings, reports and specifications; lead design reviews and technical workshops.
• Provide technical support during construction, handling RFIs, NCRs, design revisions and engineering assessments.
• Plan and manage assigned design packages, monitor schedules, coordinate internal and external interfaces and identify risk mitigation measures.
• Act as the technical point of contact for clients, attend meetings, respond to authority comments and support approvals.
• Mentor junior engineers, review their work, contribute to performance reviews and promote knowledge sharing.
• Ensure compliance with AECOM Quality Management System, lead independent design checks and incorporate lessons learned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 8–12 years of highway design experience, including major projects in the UAE.
• Strong experience with RTA infrastructure projects and local authority approval processes.
• Proven technical leadership, client relationship management and mentoring abilities.
