Senior Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

SAP is looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the design and delivery of production‑grade ML and generative AI systems that solve complex product and business challenges at scale. You will own end‑to‑end architecture, from data pipelines to model‑serving infrastructure, and ensure reliability, performance and cost efficiency in live environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable data pipelines, feature stores, training workflows and model‑serving platforms.
• Develop advanced deep‑learning, NLP, ranking, recommendation and forecasting solutions, including LLM‑based RAG, tool use and safety controls.
• Guide technical decisions on model selection, distributed training, GPU utilization, model compression, prompt optimization and drift detection.
• Mentor engineering teams and codify best practices into reusable platform components.
• Ensure observability, online experimentation and responsible AI governance.

Required profile

• Expert‑level programming in Python with strong software engineering skills in Java or Go.
• Deep knowledge of machine learning, deep learning and optimization for structured data, NLP, search and recommendation.
• Extensive experience building and operating end‑to‑end ML systems in production.
• Hands‑on expertise with modern ML/LLM tooling such as PyTorch, TensorFlow and scikit‑learn.
• Proven track record in MLOps, CI/CD, infrastructure‑as‑code and automated model validation.
