Senior Materials Engineer

About the role

The Senior Materials Engineer will lead the selection, testing, approval and quality control of construction materials for municipal infrastructure projects across Abu Dhabi. This role ensures compliance with engineering standards, sustainability goals and regulatory requirements while supporting safe, durable and cost‑effective asset delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, approve and monitor material submittals, mix designs and testing reports for roads, bridges, tunnels, drainage and stormwater projects.
• Develop and implement material QA/QC procedures, review laboratory and field test results for concrete, asphalt, aggregates, soils, pipes, geosynthetics and steel.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and investigations of material failures, recommending corrective actions and preventive measures.
• Support tender evaluations, contract reviews, method statements and inspection test plans.
• Promote sustainable and innovative materials, assess recycled options and contribute to carbon‑reduction initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Materials or Construction Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• 8‑12 years of materials engineering experience on infrastructure projects, with at least 5 years in a senior technical leadership role.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer status and relevant quality certifications are preferred.
• Experience working with government or municipal authorities in the UAE is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of concrete, asphalt, aggregates, soils, geosynthetics, steel and pipe materials.
• Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, BS EN, ISO and local authority standards.
• Expertise in mix design, material testing methodologies and QA/QC processes.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities for material performance assessment.
