Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist - Genomics

About the role

The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist – Genomics provides technical oversight and performs high‑complexity molecular and genomic testing within the laboratory’s approved scope of services, ensuring accuracy, quality and timely delivery of diagnostic results.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and coordinate nucleic acid extraction, PCR/qPCR, library preparation and next‑generation sequencing workflows.
• Review specimen suitability, manage chain‑of‑custody, and ensure traceability throughout pre‑analytical, analytical and post‑analytical phases.
• Oversee daily technical workflow, monitor turnaround times and provide guidance to technologists.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot genomic equipment and software, coordinating preventive maintenance and vendor support.
• Support assay verification, validation, quality control, proficiency testing and accreditation activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field.
• Current DHA license/eligibility and professional registration.
• Minimum five years of experience in medical laboratory science, with at least three years in a molecular/genomics laboratory.
• Hands‑on experience with next‑generation sequencing platforms and high‑complexity molecular testing.
• Experience in assay validation, quality‑control review, accreditation preparation and staff supervision.
