Senior MySQL Database Administrator

About the role

Dawam Business Solutions is hiring a Senior MySQL Database Administrator in Sheikh Zayed. The role covers designing, implementing and maintaining highly available, scalable and secure database systems (SQL/NoSQL), ensuring data integrity, security, backups and disaster recovery, and working closely with development, operations and security teams. It is a full-time position with a hybrid arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain highly available, scalable and secure database systems (SQL/NoSQL).
• Ensure data integrity, security, backup and disaster recovery plans are in place and tested regularly.
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks and implement performance-tuning strategies.
• Collaborate with software development, operations and security teams on efficient data flows and integrations.
• Manage database upgrades, migrations and patching with minimal downtime.
• Establish and enforce database standards, guidelines and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with fintech data regulations such as PCI DSS, GDPR and local financial regulations.
• Support capacity planning and scalability strategies, and report to the CTO on performance, risks and improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field.
• 3-4 years of experience in database administration and development.
• Understanding of fintech or financial services data security and compliance needs.

Required skills

• Relational databases (Oracle, MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Database clustering, replication, sharing and high availability; query optimization and indexing.
• Monitoring, troubleshooting and performance tuning tools.
• Cloud platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) is a strong plus.
• Scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation.
