Senior Power Electronics Hardware Design Engineer

About the role

The Senior Power Electronics Hardware Design Engineer will lead the design, development, integration and qualification of high‑power electronic hardware for motor drives, generator units and propulsion systems. This role covers the full hardware lifecycle from architecture definition to environmental qualification, supporting cutting‑edge defence and emerging technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop power electronics architectures for motor drive and motor generator units (MGU).
• Design inverter, rectifier and bridge stages for PMSM, BLDC and brushed DC machines.
• Design gate‑driver, protection and isolation circuits for high‑power switching stages.
• Design starter/generator and alternator power conversion, rectification and regulation circuits.
• Select power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC/GaN) and perform loss and derating analysis.
• Design magnetics, DC‑link and EMI‑filter stages.
• Perform thermal design, heatsink sizing and cooling analysis for power circuits.
• Carry out schematic design and high‑current/high‑voltage PCB layout.
• Run simulation and verification using LTspice, PLECS, PSIM or Simulink.
• Plan and support power stage bring‑up, integration and qualification tests in coordination with cross‑functional teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in power electronics and motor‑drive hardware design.
• Strong knowledge of switching converter topologies and electrical machines such as PMSM, BLDC and BDC.
• Experience with gate‑driver design, short‑circuit/over‑current protection and thermal derating.
• Familiarity with EMC/EMI‑aware design practices and relevant environmental qualification standards.

Required skills

• Design of inverter, rectifier and bridge stages for high‑power applications.
• Selection and loss analysis of MOSFET, IGBT, SiC and GaN devices.
• Thermal design, heatsink sizing and cooling analysis for power circuits.
• High‑current/high‑voltage PCB layout using Altium Designer or Mentor PADS.
• Simulation and verification with LTspice, PLECS, PSIM or Simulink.
