Senior Resident Engineer - Hotel Refurbishment

About the role

A leading architectural engineering consultancy in Dubai is looking for an experienced Senior Resident Engineer to supervise two major hotel refurbishment projects in succession. The role is hands-on and site-based, with continuity of leadership across about three years of work for globally recognised hospitality brands.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the site-based Resident Engineering team on two consecutive hotel refurbishment projects
• Supervise and monitor contractor works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards and programme
• Review and approve contractor submittals, method statements, material approvals, RFIs and inspection requests
• Carry out and oversee site inspections, snagging and testing and commissioning, ensuring defects are fixed promptly
• Coordinate day-to-day between contractor, design team, client and hotel operator, especially around works alongside live or phased hotel operations
• Monitor progress against the construction programme and report on delays, risks and mitigation
• Review contractor payment applications, variations and claims, and advise on cost and contractual matters
• Enforce site health, safety and environmental requirements and comply with Dubai Municipality, Civil Defence and other local authority regulations, as well as brand standards
• Prepare regular progress reports, minutes and project documentation
• Lead, mentor and develop the Resident Engineering team

Required profile

• Degree in Civil, Architectural, Mechanical or a related engineering discipline
• Minimum 12+ years of site experience in construction supervision, including significant Resident Engineer or equivalent senior site experience
• Proven experience on hotel or hospitality refurbishment projects, ideally with international brand standards
• Previous GCC experience, ideally in Dubai, with knowledge of local authority regulations and approval processes
• Chartered status (ICE, CIOB, IMechE or equivalent) preferred

Required skills

• Interior fit-out, MEP coordination and building services in refurbishment environments
• Contract administration (e.g. FIDIC) and construction project controls
• MS Office and project management or document control platforms
• Leadership, communication and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
