Senior Structural Engineer - Site (Steel/Concrete)

About the role

A civil engineering consultancy in Dubai is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to act as the Local Consultant for a project, supervising steel and reinforced concrete works. The role is normally that of a Project Engineer on projects of various sizes; on major or more complex projects it can also be a Design Engineer. The engineer delivers work to a fee agreed with the Project Manager and represents the practice at project level.

Key responsibilities

• Review structural shop drawings, calculations and method statements, and review and approve shop and fabrication drawings.
• Conduct site visits to monitor steel erection and resolve technical issues, and provide technical support during fabrication and installation.
• Identify and resolve design discrepancies and structural challenges, and respond to RFIs.
• Ensure compliance with international codes, authority standards and project specifications, and monitor construction so that design intent is achieved.
• Attend weekly site progress meetings and coordinate with other disciplines on coordination issues and day-to-day supervision.
• Keep track of project budgets and timelines, and prepare and present client and project proposals to stakeholders.
• Supervise a small team of engineers and technicians and support the inspection team in resolving site issues.
• Develop innovative solutions to site clashes and produce supporting technical documentation and research reports.
• Follow 9E QHSE policies, report QHSE incidents immediately, and obtain site induction before mobilizing.

Required profile

• Qualified graduate engineer in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 12-15 years of experience in engineering consultancy firms with site supervision.
• Proven experience designing and structurally analysing reinforced concrete and steel structures.
• Master's degree or Chartered Engineering is an added advantage.
• Ability to supervise a small team and to represent the practice at project level.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of design software such as ETABS, Staad Pro, IDEA StatiCa and SAP.
• Knowledge of concept design, buildability, detailed design, construction techniques, procurement routes, risk and claim assessment, and QA responsibility for the team.
