Senior Technical Software Engineer - API Platform (Kong)

About the role

Emirates is hiring a Senior Technical Software Engineer for its API Platform team in Dubai. The engineer is a full member of an agile feature team that designs, implements and supports enterprise API platform capabilities and infrastructure, focusing on API gateway solutions with Kong and other API gateway technologies. The role covers planning, estimation, development, deployment, release, hyper-care and operation of solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical design, development and deployment of complex solutions and run technical design reviews to choose the right architecture patterns.
• Promote engineering practices such as automation, lean software development, test-driven development, agile practices and root cause analysis, including blameless incident post-mortems.
• Partner with cross-functional teams on solution viability, evaluate problems and requirements, and drive proof-of-concepts and prototypes.
• Debug and fix complex issues, investigate alternatives and new technologies, and contribute to sprint planning and technology communities of practice.
• Mentor software engineers, coach them on design and coding standards, and manage their technical delivery.
• Use enterprise platforms and tools in line with the approved technology architecture, and handle corrective, adaptive, preventative and perfective maintenance.

Required profile

• Degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering.
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in information technology.
• Experience building and operating enterprise-scale API platforms with Kong, including API design, gateway configuration, policy enforcement and production operations.
• Experience designing, developing and securing RESTful and GraphQL APIs, and asynchronous, event-driven and message-based APIs.
• Experience with IaC (Terraform, Ansible), GitLab, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and integration tools such as TIBCO BusinessWorks, SnapLogic and Solace.
