Senior/Principal Engineer – Vertical Transportation

About the role

WSP Middle East is looking for an experienced Senior/Principal Engineer to lead the design and delivery of vertical transportation systems for a wide range of projects in Dubai. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients, providing technical leadership and ensuring high‑quality, compliant solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and specification of lifts, escalators, moving walks and specialist vertical transportation systems.
• Prepare technical reports, drawings, schedules and specifications in line with project requirements and relevant standards.
• Review VT designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with codes, standards and best practice.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines (MEP, Architecture, Structures, BIM) and external stakeholders.
• Liaise with clients, architects, contractors and VT suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support tender evaluations, technical submissions and contractor clarifications.
• Provide site support, including inspections, testing, commissioning and handover activities.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to business development activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 6 + years of professional experience in vertical transportation design and consultancy, preferably in the Middle East.
• Proven track record delivering VT systems on large‑scale, complex developments.
• Strong knowledge of international and regional codes (EN, ISO, BS) and local authority requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting programme, quality and commercial expectations.
• Effective client, authority and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Chartered Engineer status or active progress toward professional accreditation is highly desirable.
