Sharia Audit Manager

About the role

The Manager – Sharia Audit is responsible for organizing and managing internal Sharia audit assignments in line with ADIB’s internal audit plans. The role ensures the bank complies with Sharia rules and principles, providing reasonable assurance that non‑Sharia compliance risks are mitigated to a low residual level.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the execution of internal Sharia audits, making policy recommendations and ensuring adherence to AAOIFI and internal audit standards.
• Develop risk‑based Sharia audit plans, programs and checklists in consultation with the Team Leader.
• Coordinate with the Sharia IT project team to generate required reports and improve audit tools.
• Prepare authority letters, presentations and audit memoranda for line management and audit team members.
• Select audit samples using approved methodologies and complete working papers that reflect audit work and findings.
• Follow up on client management replies to audit exceptions within three working days and highlight any delays.
• Ensure corrective actions are taken on previous audit exceptions and that repeated issues are escalated.
• Provide guidance to junior Sharia auditors and train new staff on Sharia audit approaches.
• Participate in special reviews, assess responsibility for non‑compliance and recommend remedial actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Sharia, Islamic Economics or Islamic Banking.
• CISSA and CIPA certifications (or equivalent).
• 5–10 years of experience in Sharia audit or related compliance functions.
• Fluent in Arabic and English.
• Strong IT proficiency.

Required skills

• IT skills for audit tools and reporting.
• Knowledge of AAOIFI standards and internal audit standards (IIA).
