Shift Controller – Semi-Finished Operator

About the role

The Shift Controller – Semi-Finished Operator is responsible for organizing and coordinating activities in the billet bay area of the casting plant. The role ensures smooth production flow, traceability of billets, and delivery of quality semi‑finished products to the rolling mills or customers.

Key responsibilities

• Mark the first and last billet of each heat for traceability, manually writing heat numbers when marking machines are unavailable.
• Verify the physical count of produced billets and report to the CCM control room.
• Identify and isolate non‑conforming billets, placing them on the inspection bed.
• Control, inspect, and stack good and non‑compatible billets according to work instructions (WI SMD2‑CC‑WI‑011).
• Coordinate daily billet transfers with rolling mills controllers.
• Maintain availability of consumables and tools required for billet handling.
• Keep the work area clean and free of obstacles.
• Perform timely quality checks and collect samples by gas cutting.
• Collaborate with QC to ensure consistent product quality and quantity.
• Train new employees and coordinate with crane and casting operators regarding billet quality.

Required profile

• Higher Secondary School or ITI qualification.
• Approximately 5 years of experience as a billet handling operator in a steel plant.
• Around 3 years of experience in the billet casting industry with gas cutting systems.
• Strong technical knowledge of casting parameters and billet quality.

Required skills

• Oxy‑cutting and welding ability.
• Billet handling and stacking.
• Knowledge of casting operations and parameters.
• Understanding of ASME code and Emirates Steel QS program requirements.
