Shift Roll & Stand Fitter (Steel Industry)

About the role

The Shift Roll & Stand Fitter is responsible for maintaining and servicing roll and mill stands during shift operations in a steel rolling mill. The role ensures equipment reliability, safety, and optimal performance in a fast‑paced production environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out roll and mill stand maintenance, including roll changing, assembly, dismantling and installation.
• Inspect and maintain mill stands, work rolls, bearings, chocks, spindles, couplings and related components.
• Check roll alignment, clearances, mechanical settings and assist with product/size changeovers.
• Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance on rolling‑mill equipment.
• Support planned shutdowns, major overhauls and emergency breakdown activities.
• Use mechanical tools, lifting equipment, tackles and measuring instruments safely.
• Coordinate with crane operators and other maintenance personnel during change activities.
• Follow SOPs, work permits, HSE, LOTO and PPE requirements and maintain housekeeping.
• Record maintenance actions, equipment defects and shift hand‑over information.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a steel rolling‑mill environment, specifically in a 2&3 roll shop.
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field.
• Ability to work shifts and follow strict safety procedures.
