Sleep Technologist

About the role

Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Hospital, part of M42, is recruiting a Sleep Technologist. The role provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, patient care and direct patient education. The technologist performs the duties of a sleep technician, scores sleep data and prepares raw data for physicians while complying with M42 policies and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies such as polysomnography (PSG), PAP titration, split-night studies, MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, oxygen titration and portable monitoring.
• Review patient history, verify medical orders and prepare patients for sleep studies, including education on procedures, equipment and disease management.
• Apply electrodes and sensors using the 10-20 system, calibrate equipment and ensure high-quality, artifact-free signals according to AASM guidelines.
• Monitor patients during the study, document observations and respond to patient needs and safety concerns.
• Score sleep stages and clinical events (respiratory, limb movement, cardiac events, arousals) and generate sleep study reports using AASM standards.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and clean sleep lab equipment, coordinating with biomedical engineering for servicing and repairs.
• Perform additional tests such as ABGs, non-invasive PAP assessments and CO2 monitoring (EtCO2 or TcCO2).
• Ensure accurate documentation, billing charge capture and compliance with infection control standards.
• Contribute to quality improvement, research and service development in the sleep medicine program.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy, or a certificate in respiratory therapy of at least 2 years, or a bachelor's degree in nursing.
• One of the following certificates: RPSGT, ABSM, or NBRC Sleep Disorders Specialty Examination.
• At least 2 years of experience after qualification in a related field.
• Medical license (DOH/DHA/MOH).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, ACLS or PALS.
