Specialist Heat Treatment

About the role

The Specialist Heat Treatment will supervise technicians and lead the development of heat‑treatment cycles for a variety of metal components. This role ensures that casting, welding, machining and forging parts meet strict mechanical and metallurgical specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise assigned technicians to achieve manufacturing and maintenance goals.
• Develop heat‑treatment cycles and work instructions for processes such as hardening, tempering, annealing, normalizing, stress relieving and solution treatment.
• Analyse casting defects (cracking, distortion, hardness variation) and coordinate with foundry teams to improve quality.
• Define and monitor pre‑heating, post‑weld heat treatment (PWHT) and stress‑relieving procedures.
• Support welding qualification activities and procedure development.
• Coordinate heat‑treatment before and after machining to minimise distortion and tool wear.
• Operate and monitor heat‑treatment equipment, including induction hardening machines and furnaces, controlling temperatures, soak times, cooling rates and quenching methods.
• Conduct hardness testing, interpret metallurgical test results and review microstructure reports.
• Assist in foundry operations such as sand‑mold casting, die casting, pattern making, mold preparation, melting and pouring.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising technicians in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of heat‑treatment principles and metallurgical standards.
• Ability to develop and document process cycles and work instructions.
• Experience analysing casting defects and working with foundry teams.
• Familiarity with welding qualification and PWHT requirements.
