Specialist - Maternal and Fetal Medicine

About the role

The Royal Women Hospital Abu Dhabi is seeking a Specialist in Maternal and Fetal Medicine to join its obstetrics and gynecology department. The role involves delivering comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide surgical care for gynecologic and obstetric conditions in the operating theatre and outpatient department, handling both emergency and planned procedures.
• Cover the delivery suite, admit patients, review histories, plan management, and perform spontaneous and operative deliveries while coordinating with midwives.
• Respond promptly to emergency service calls and provide consultations to other physicians.
• Conduct outpatient clinic duties as assigned, including patient assessments and follow‑up care.
• Perform and interpret ultrasound examinations and fetal heart‑rate monitoring, taking appropriate clinical actions.
• Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and quality‑assurance activities, ensuring compliance with infection‑control and patient‑safety policies.

Required profile

• Completion of a three‑year residency in obstetrics and gynecology, leading to a recognized post‑graduate qualification (Tier 1 or Tier 2) approved by the Department of Health.
• Minimum five years of exclusive obstetrics‑gynecology practice since certification.
• Willingness to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays according to departmental scheduling.

Required skills

• Proficiency in obstetric and gynecologic surgery, including both emergency and elective procedures.
• Expertise in performing and interpreting obstetric ultrasound examinations.
• Ability to interpret fetal heart‑rate patterns and manage intra‑partum care.
• Strong clinical decision‑making in emergency and delivery settings.
