Staff Nurse – Maternal Newborn (TP)

About the role

Provides direct and indirect age‑specific care for patients in the Maternal Newborn Unit on scheduled shifts. The nurse is responsible for professional performance, safe patient care, and full nursing process activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation and care coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Perform age‑specific patient assessments and continual critical‑care evaluations of patients and families.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop, revise and prioritize individualized care plans.
• Document all relevant data in the medical record and ensure availability of supplies and equipment.
• Participate in staff meetings, unit committees, continuous quality‑improvement activities and mandatory education (e.g., fire safety, infection control).
• Execute nursing interventions such as phototherapy, postnatal physical assessments, use of radiant warmers/incubators, neonatal resuscitation and sucrose administration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing (minimum three‑year program) or equivalent degree with registration from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia.
• Valid nursing license/registration in home country or last place of employment.
• Minimum two years recent post‑graduate experience in Maternal Newborn nursing.
• Knowledge of age‑appropriate, developmental care and ability to assess physical and psychological needs of patients and families.

Required skills

• Implementation of phototherapy.
• Conducting postnatal physical assessments.
• Operation of radiant warmers or incubators.
• Use of neonatal resuscitation equipment (resuscitaire).
• Administration of sucrose to neonates.
• Safe handling and documentation of narcotic/controlled drugs.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
