Staff Nurse – PACU

About the role

Provide direct and indirect age‑specific care for patients in the Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), ensuring safe recovery and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide age‑specific, patient‑centered care in the PACU, performing comprehensive assessments and coordinating care plans.
• Monitor and manage chest tube drainage systems, endotracheal tubes, epidural catheters and tracheostomy tubes for both adult and pediatric patients.
• Perform emergency interventions such as defibrillation, cardioversion and trans‑cutaneous pacing, and operate PCA pumps and peripheral nerve block equipment.
• Document all patient data in accordance with Joint Commission International standards and participate in unit quality‑improvement activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or equivalent) with a current registration in the home country or last place of employment.
• Minimum two years recent experience in a PACU setting, with demonstrated competence in pediatric and adult critical‑care procedures.
• Valid Basic Life Support certification and ability to meet JCIA mandatory education requirements.

Required skills

• Chest tube management and drainage system setup.
• Endotracheal tube removal and pediatric extubation.
• Epidural programming, care and discontinuation.
• Tracheostomy tube care and suction.
• Defibrillation, cardioversion and trans‑cutaneous pacing.
• PCA pump operation and peripheral nerve block administration.
• IV access, fluid resuscitation and Hemocue testing.
