Staff Nurse – Surgical

About the role

The Staff Nurse – Surgical provides high‑quality, patient‑centered care for adult patients undergoing elective and emergency surgeries across multiple specialties. Working within Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Mohammad Medical City, the nurse ensures safe medication administration, accurate documentation, and adherence to SEHA guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialized pre‑ and post‑operative care for surgeries in OB/Gynaecology, Breast, ENT, Orthopaedic, Neuro, Maxillofacial, Dental and General Surgery.
• Manage complex interventions such as external ventricular drains (EVD), lumbar drains, traction devices, implantable cardioverter‑defibrillators (ICDs) and tracheostomies.
• Provide advanced pain management, including patient‑controlled analgesia (PCA) and epidural infusions.
• Monitor patient conditions, use early warning scoring tools, and promptly escalate care to physicians or supervisors.
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation, navigate the Malaffi health‑information system, and support discharge planning and referrals.
• Administer medications safely in line with SEHA and regulatory guidelines, and report medication errors or adverse events.
• Participate in emergency response, organizational development initiatives, and uphold SEHA core values.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the UAE.
• Experience in surgical nursing and adult post‑operative care.
• Ability to perform and supervise complex procedures (EVD, lumbar drains, traction devices, ICDs, tracheostomies).
• Knowledge of pain management techniques, medication safety, and SEHA policies.
• Strong documentation skills and proficiency with the Malaffi system.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice, patient advocacy and multicultural teamwork.
