Studio Design Leader – Commercial & Mixed‑Use

About the role

The Studio Design Leader drives design excellence for commercial and mixed‑use projects, ensuring high‑quality outcomes that align with HKS’s strategic vision. The role involves leading multiple project teams, fostering collaboration, and acting as a key client interface.

Key responsibilities

• Support and evaluate project design leaders and teams, ensuring work meets the studio’s strategic plan.
• Collaborate on strategic planning, marketing strategy, and resource allocation with studio and office leadership.
• Guide project teams through all phases—from programming and concept design to construction documentation—while maintaining design standards of integration, innovation, and impact.
• Mentor designers, lead critiques, and serve as a technical resource for complex problem resolution.
• Manage client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination, acting as primary studio liaison.
• Monitor staffing, utilization, and growth, recommending adjustments as needed.

Required profile

• Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field; licensure preferred.
• 15+ years of experience, including senior leadership and talent development.
• Significant experience in commercial/mixed‑use design and sustainable design accreditation preferred.
• Proven track record in client relationship building and business development.
