Switchgear Electrician

About the role

The Switchgear Electrician is responsible for inspecting, preventing and maintaining lighting and electrical switchgear systems. The role reports to a supervisor or manager and coordinates any required modifications with the department.

Key responsibilities

• Read and interpret control panel drawings.
• Assemble, install, test and maintain low‑voltage (LV) electrical control panels using hand and power tools.
• Analyze malfunctioning equipment with test equipment to locate and correct faults.
• Inspect electrical systems, equipment and components for hazards, defects and code compliance.
• Use measuring and testing devices such as ammeters, test lamps, IR testers, dielectric testers, ohmmeters and voltmeters.
• Maintain records, prepare reports and order supplies and components.
• Repair or replace wiring, equipment and fixtures, working from ladders, scaffolds or roofs.

Required profile

• Minimum of 3 years related electrical maintenance experience.
• Ability to read and understand control panel drawings.
• Reports to a supervisor/manager.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools.
• Experience with LV electrical control panels.
• Use of test equipment: ammeters, test lamps, IR tester, dielectric tester.
• Knowledge of measuring devices and testing instruments such as ohmmeters and voltmeters.
