System Software / Platform Engineer (C++)

About the role

The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), a publicly funded research institute in Abu Dhabi, is hiring a System Software/Platform Engineer within its Robotics Research Center. The role covers software development, deployment pipelines and scalable frameworks, including designing, testing and optimizing reliable software systems, building robust frameworks and ensuring efficient CI/CD pipelines and production-ready deployments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain system-level frameworks and core libraries in modern C++ (C++17/20/23), applying design patterns and best practices; collaborate on APIs and core components.
• Build and maintain containerized environments with Docker and orchestration tools, and automate deployment, configuration and scaling with Ansible or equivalent.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines with automated builds and testing, and define unit, integration and regression testing frameworks.
• Stay up to date with software engineering practices, C++ standards and deployment frameworks.

Required profile

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Proven track record in system-level or framework development with modern C++.
• Strong background in deployment automation, CI/CD pipelines and containerized environments.
• Experience with software testing and validation frameworks.
• Excellent problem-solving ability and collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• C++ (C++17 or newer), STL, templates, concurrency and memory management; object-oriented design and design patterns.
• Docker, Ansible; Kubernetes or Nomad is a plus.
• Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions or equivalent; Google Test, Catch2; TDD.
• Linux, networking, distributed computing and performance optimization.
• Monitoring/logging and profiling tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and ELK.

Nice to have: Kubernetes or cloud-native orchestration, Yocto, and a background in high-performance computing or real-time systems.
