Third W/K Engineer – Marine Dredging

About the role

The Third W/K Engineer supports the safe and efficient operation of the dredging engine on board. Working closely with the 2nd and Chief Engineers, this role ensures the engine and its auxiliary systems remain reliable in a fast‑paced marine environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the 2nd and Chief Engineers with daily engine maintenance and repairs.
• Monitor, record, and analyse engine performance data to detect anomalies.
• Conduct regular inspections and tests to verify optimal performance and safety compliance.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose engine‑related problems, implementing effective solutions.
• Perform routine tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
• Support installation and commissioning of new engine components or systems.
• Collaborate with engineering team members to integrate the dredging engine with other vessel systems.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance and repair activities.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations at all times.
• Provide guidance to junior engineering staff as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience as a 3rd Engineer or equivalent in the marine industry, preferably on dredgers.
• Valid 3rd Engineer’s License or comparable certification.
• Strong knowledge of marine engine systems, including diesel engines, propulsion and auxiliary equipment.
• Proficiency in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting techniques.
• Excellent problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical fitness for manual labour and a commitment to safety.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules, including shifts and overtime.
