Underground Structures Lead - Construction

About the role

The Underground Structures Lead will drive the design, construction and management of underground infrastructure for the UAE high‑speed rail network. This senior position requires deep expertise in tunnelling, underground station design and structural engineering within dense urban environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of tunnels, underground stations and intervention shafts, ensuring compliance with AASHTO LRFD and Eurocodes.
• Oversee construction activities, verify contractor submissions and manage structural designs for bridges, culverts and other underground elements.
• Implement fire and life‑safety strategies, addressing emergency egress, ventilation and space constraints.
• Coordinate with government, military and private stakeholders to resolve land‑availability and alignment challenges.
• Provide technical guidance on construction methodologies such as cut‑and‑cover and mined tunnelling.

Required profile

• Extensive experience with TBM and cut‑and‑cover tunnelling methods.
• Proven involvement in high‑speed rail projects, including station design, track alignment and underground facilities.
• Strong project‑management background covering budget control, resource allocation and risk mitigation.
• Familiarity with UAE‑specific challenges such as extreme heat, sand infiltration and dense urban settings.
