Welding Inspector

About the role

Bureau Veritas is hiring a Welding Inspector in Abu Dhabi, reporting to the Team Leader. The inspector works closely with the large project manager, administration assistant, technical managers and customers, and establishes direct contact with clients and, when needed, with other Bureau Veritas organisations. The role covers inspection, supervision of welding and NDT activities, and inspection reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Review contractual requirements, technical standards and specifications, and define and review the Quality Plan and procedures
• Review and validate inspection assignment documentation and define Bureau Veritas interventions
• Select the most appropriate inspection techniques and supervise or carry out inspections according to the Quality Plan
• Execute inspection reporting, including treatment of non-conformities (NCRs) and other deliverables
• Ensure inspection quality according to the BV Quality System and interpret inspection results
• Witness welding procedure qualification tests and welder performance tests, and check fit-up, pre-heating, consumables and WPS compliance
• Monitor NDT and PWHT reports, review radiography films and prepare inspection reports submitted to the Team Leader
• Appraise inspection procedures, maintain internal communication, promote the service portfolio to clients and share knowledge

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or HNC training
• Minimum 5 years' experience as an inspector/technician, 8 years as an engineer surveyor or 10 years as a senior engineer surveyor
• Site safety induction, sea survival course for offshore sites, and H2S course if required
• Results-oriented, service-driven and problem-solving, with customer focus and respect for security guidelines

Required skills

• CSWIP 3.1 or 3.2 or AWS CWI, or an approved equivalent
• ASNT / PCN Level II in RT, UT, MT and PT, or an approved equivalent
• Strong knowledge of ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS codes and standards
• Experience applying codes, project specifications and procedures to welding and NDT inspection
