2nd W/K Engineer - Dredger

About the role

NMDC Group is hiring a 2nd W/K Engineer for a dredger, based in Abu Dhabi. The engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation and maintenance of the vessel's main engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors and associated machinery, and assists the Chief Engineer in managing engine room operations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical and auxiliary equipment.
• Monitor machinery performance, operating parameters, fuel consumption, lubrication and cooling systems, and ensure compliance with manufacturer recommendations, vessel procedures and Class/Flag requirements.
• Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of dredging-related machinery such as pumps, hydraulic systems and power transmission equipment.
• Supervise engine-room ratings and give clear instructions during maintenance and operations.
• Maintain engine-room logs, maintenance records, checklists and technical documentation.
• Take part in planned maintenance, overhauls, breakdown repairs and machinery testing, and manage the availability of spares, tools, lubricants and consumables.
• Support bunkering, fuel transfer, machinery trials and other engine-room operations, and respond to breakdowns, alarms and emergencies.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, SMS, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class and Flag State requirements, and maintain safety, housekeeping and pollution prevention standards.
• Conduct risk assessments, follow Permit to Work, Lock-Out/Tag-Out and safe working procedures, and take part in emergency drills.
• Coordinate with the Chief Engineer, Dredge Master, Electrical/Technical teams and shore-based management, and perform other engineering duties assigned by the Chief Engineer or Technical Superintendent.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in marine or mechanical engineering.
• Certified as 2nd Engineer under STCW regulations.
• Basic and advanced STCW training.
• Medical fitness certificate as per ILO/MLC requirements.
