Application Security Manager - Data & Cloud Security

About the role

The organisation is looking for a Data & Application Security Manager to lead its data security strategy and secure its expanding Azure cloud environment. The role suits a Data Security Leader who owns and drives a security programme rather than a traditional Microsoft 365 engineer or a purely managerial profile, combining strategic leadership with hands-on technical work in data classification, DLP, Microsoft Purview and Azure security.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end rollout of the data classification, labelling and DLP programme.
• Design and implement data governance and protection frameworks using Microsoft Purview.
• Drive user adoption and manage organisational change across business units, and engage senior stakeholders to champion data security.
• Align data protection with the organisation's growing AI and data transformation agenda.
• Own the security architecture and controls for the Azure IaaS environment, including landing zones and cloud security best practices.
• Define and implement security technologies, policies and governance in Azure, and ensure consistency between on-premises and cloud controls.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading a Data Classification, Sensitivity Labelling and DLP programme from strategy through implementation.
• Solid background in Azure Security, including landing zones, cloud governance and security controls.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, able to influence leaders, manage resistance and drive business adoption.
• Experience in government, regulated or highly security-conscious environments is advantageous.

Required skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview (highly preferred) or equivalent data security platforms.
• Experience with Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel and the broader Microsoft Security stack.
