Artificial Intelligence Internship – Abu Dhabi (2 months)

About the role

The Artificial Intelligence Internship at UNICEF’s Gulf Area Office in Abu Dhabi offers a two‑month, full‑time placement for students or recent graduates. Interns will support UNICEF’s work on AI governance, child protection and humanitarian response in the Gulf region.

Key responsibilities

• Compile and analyse existing models of UNICEF engagement with GCC governments on artificial intelligence.
• Research and propose new engagement models covering governance, convening and evidence generation.
• Provide technical input to AI laws, strategies and child‑digital‑safety regulations.
• Co‑design child‑centred AI solutions that can be scaled through UNICEF’s global network.
• Assist in piloting, scaling and mobilising resources for AI‑driven projects, including partnerships with Gulf sovereign funds and Islamic finance instruments.
• Explore the use of AI in humanitarian settings while safeguarding children’s rights.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a tertiary program (e.g., Computer Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Law, or related fields).
• Strong interest in artificial intelligence, child rights and policy research.
• Excellent analytical and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
