Assistant Resident Engineer - Facilities

About the role

AtkinsRéalis is looking for a qualified Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) to support the Resident Engineer in daily construction supervision of a large‑scale Roads and Infrastructure project in the United Arab Emirates. The role involves monitoring site activities, ensuring compliance with drawings and specifications, and assisting with documentation, reporting and quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Resident Engineer in day‑to‑day supervision of roadworks, drainage, utilities and structural components.
• Coordinate with site inspectors to verify contractor activities against approved drawings, method statements and specifications.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, ITPs and material submittals for assigned disciplines.
• Prepare daily reports, maintain site records and track progress and quality observations.
• Monitor contractor programme, flag slippages or non‑conformances and escalate issues.
• Participate in technical and progress meetings, reporting issues to the Resident Engineer.
• Ensure inspection and testing activities follow the QA/QC plan and liaise with HSE staff on safety compliance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and other engineering disciplines to resolve coordination issues on site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from a WHED‑listed university.
• Minimum 10 years total experience, including at least 5 years in site supervision of roads and infrastructure projects.
• Chartered/Professional Engineer status (preferred – UPDA Grade A).
• Excellent command of spoken and written English.

Required skills

• Document Management Systems (e.g., Ashghal DCS).
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• AutoCAD viewing skills.
• Solid knowledge of civil engineering specifications for roads, utilities and drainage.
• Practical understanding of QA/QC and HSE procedures.
