Automation Engineer

About the role

The Automation Engineer will design, optimise and maintain automated systems for warehouse operations within a retail distribution environment. You will work closely with technicians, OEMs and service providers to ensure high uptime and throughput.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deploy automated systems such as conveyor belts, sorters, AS/RS, PLCs and SCADA interfaces.
• Evaluate existing automation performance and recommend upgrades to maximise uptime and throughput.
• Lead advanced troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis of mechanical, electrical and software issues.
• Plan, test and commission new automation installations or expansions, delivering engineering documentation and validation protocols.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, maintain risk assessments and implement safety protocols.
• Maintain accurate logs, develop technical manuals and present KPI reports to management.

Required profile

• 4–6 years of experience in warehouse or industrial automation engineering, preferably in retail distribution.
• Strong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems and industrial control systems.
• Experience with automated conveyor and sortation systems and warehouse management integrations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering.
• Exposure to Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Industry 4.0 concepts is a plus.
