Backend Engineer – API Development

About the role

AIQ is seeking a Backend Engineer specialized in API development to design, build, and maintain high‑performance services that power its industrial AI solutions for the energy sector. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, leverage AI‑assisted development tools, and ensure every line of code is robust, tested, and defensible.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement RESTful APIs using Node.js, Python, and related frameworks.
• Develop APIs with Express.js, Flask, or FastAPI following industry best practices.
• Design and optimise database schemas for efficient data retrieval and storage.
• Deploy and manage API infrastructure on cloud platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Create CI/CD pipelines, containerise applications with Docker, and orchestrate deployments using Kubernetes.
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and apply caching or other optimisation techniques.

Required profile

• Strong background in backend development with a focus on API design.
• Experience building and scaling services in cloud environments.
• Proficiency in writing clean, testable, and well‑documented code.
• Ability to work collaboratively with product, data, and infrastructure teams.
