Backend Engineer - Python

About the role

AppliedAI is looking for a Backend Engineer specialized in Python to join its Abu Dhabi office. You will design and develop server‑side logic, APIs and micro‑services that power mission‑critical AI‑driven workflows for regulated industries.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, well‑documented Python code following SOLID and domain‑driven design principles.
• Develop, test and maintain micro‑services and REST APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.
• Implement unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews.
• Integrate real‑time messaging (Kafka, Redis Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ) and asynchronous task queues (Celery, RQ) into backend systems.
• Collaborate with frontend, DevOps and machine‑learning teams to deliver end‑to‑end features.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, logging and monitoring to ensure production observability.

Required profile

• Proven experience building backend services with Python.
• Familiarity with micro‑service architectures and distributed systems.
• Hands‑on experience with at least one real‑time messaging or streaming technology.
• Practical knowledge of asynchronous task processing using Celery or RQ.
• Experience creating REST APIs with FastAPI, Flask or similar frameworks.
• Exposure to ETL workflows or data pipelines is a plus.
