CAD Designer - CNC Laser & Waterjet Cutting

About the role

Al Tayeb Engineering Turning is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Designer in Sharjah. The designer prepares technical drawings and cutting files for CNC machines, especially laser cutting and waterjet cutting, and works closely with the production team to ensure precision, minimise material wastage and keep cutting operations efficient.

Key responsibilities

• Create and modify 2D CAD drawings and cutting files for CNC laser and waterjet machines according to customer requirements and technical specifications.
• Prepare accurate production-ready files with correct dimensions, tolerances, layouts and cutting paths.
• Convert engineering drawings, sketches, PDFs and other design references into machine-compatible formats.
• Optimise cutting layouts and nesting to reduce material wastage and improve efficiency.
• Coordinate with machine operators and production teams so drawings match machine capabilities.
• Review technical drawings for accuracy, spot design errors and adjust them before production.
• Maintain records of CAD drawings, cutting programs, revisions and customer files.
• Support the production team and troubleshoot drawing or file issues during manufacturing.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, CAD Design, Drafting or a related technical field preferred.
• Proven experience as a CAD Designer, especially in CNC laser cutting, waterjet cutting, sheet metal fabrication or similar manufacturing.
• Good understanding of technical drawings, tolerances, material thicknesses and fabrication processes.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and ability to work accurately under production deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of CNC file formats DXF and DWG, and experience preparing files for machine operation.
• Nesting software and cutting layout optimisation is an advantage.
