Cataloging and Metadata Librarian

About the role

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian provides specialized cataloging and metadata expertise for print and online resources at the University Library, reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Technology and Technical Services. The role coordinates technical services staff, manages databases, and collaborates with vendors such as OCLC.

Key responsibilities

• Catalog print and electronic resources using AACR2, LCSH, LC, MARC21 and other metadata standards.
• Provide reference assistance both face‑to‑face and virtually.
• Manage deposit of scholarly outputs into the AUS institutional repository.
• Coordinate archives specialist and archive functions.
• Oversee copyright services, including rights management and course‑pack processes.
• Liaise with academic departments for collection development, instruction and outreach.
• Supervise paraprofessional staff and support acquisitions, serials and document delivery.
• Foster links with regional and international partners and disseminate best practices.

Required profile

• ALA‑accredited (or equivalent) Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS).
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in an academic library.
• Direct experience cataloguing both print and electronic resources.
• Proven ability to engage proactively with faculty and researchers.
• Experience supervising paraprofessional staff in an academic library.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and commitment to customer service.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
