Cataloging and Metadata Librarian

About the role

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian provides specialized cataloging and metadata expertise for managing print and online resources at the University Library, reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Technology and Technical Services.

Key responsibilities

• Catalog print and electronic resources using AACR2, LCSH, LC, MARC21 and related metadata standards.
• Provide reference assistance both face‑to‑face and virtually.
• Manage deposit of research outputs into the AUS institutional repository.
• Coordinate archives functions and work with the Archives Specialist.
• Oversee copyright services, including rights management and course‑pack processes.
• Serve as liaison for assigned academic departments, supporting collection development, instruction and outreach.
• Foster strong links with regional and international partners and disseminate best practices.

Required profile

• ALA‑accredited (or equivalent) Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS).
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in academic libraries, including cataloging of print and electronic resources.
• Experience supervising paraprofessional staff in an academic library setting.
• Proven ability to engage proactively with faculty and researchers.

Required skills

• AACR2, LCSH, LC classification, MARC21 and library automated systems.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and indexing/abstracting databases.
• Experience with OCLC’s WorldShare platform and other discovery layers.
• Knowledge of cataloging processes, best practices and current technical services trends.
