Chief Engineer – Dredger Operations

About the role

We are seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the engineering department aboard a dredger operated by NMDC Dredging and Marine. The role ensures safe, efficient and continuous operation of propulsion, dredging and auxiliary systems while maintaining high standards of performance and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all engine‑room and technical operations, including main propulsion, dredging equipment and auxiliary machinery.
• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance in line with company policies and class requirements.
• Lead, supervise and develop the engineering team, ensuring discipline, performance and proper training.
• Monitor machinery performance, conduct troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and implement long‑term solutions.
• Oversee inventory of spare parts, fuel, lubricants and consumables, and manage bunkering operations.
• Coordinate with the Master, shore management and project teams for operational and technical support.
• Prepare technical reports, maintenance records and budget forecasts.
• Supervise dry‑docking, major overhauls and statutory inspections.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in marine or mechanical engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of rank experience aboard a dredger.
• Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer.
• Strong leadership, technical expertise and decision‑making abilities.
