Commis 1 - Kitchen Assistant

About the role

JW Marriott in Dubai is looking for a Commis 1 to prepare and cook food in the kitchen, following recipes, quality standards and presentation standards. The role also involves supporting the chef, managing food quality and assisting management with staff matters.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals or substitute items and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards and a food preparation checklist
• Regulate the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters, and pull food from freezer storage to thaw in the refrigerator
• Ensure proper portion, arrangement and garnish, and monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared
• Maintain food logs and inform the chef of excess food items for daily specials
• Tell Food & Beverage service staff about menu specials and out-of-stock items
• Anticipate guest service needs and communicate assistance required during busy periods
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining and motivating staff, and act as a role model
• Follow company and safety policies, report accidents and unsafe conditions, complete safety training and certifications, and keep a clean, professional appearance

Required profile

• Preferred: technical, trade or vocational school degree
• Preferred: at least 3 years of related work experience
• No supervisory experience required
• Physical ability to stand, sit or walk for long periods and to lift up to 25 pounds
