Commis (Kitchen Assistant)

About the role

The Commis supports the kitchen team by preparing ingredients, cooking simple dishes, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This entry‑level position is ideal for candidates with basic culinary training who are eager to develop their skills in a hotel setting.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients: portion, chop, wash, peel, weigh, measure and mix according to recipes.
• Cook and assemble cold and hot foods, operating ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers.
• Monitor food quality and temperature, test doneness, and ensure presentation standards.
• Set up and break down work stations, serve food in proper portions, and maintain sanitation of kitchen areas, tools and equipment.
• Follow all safety, security and company policies, report incidents and complete required training.

Required profile

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• At least 1 year of related kitchen or food‑service experience.
• No supervisory experience required.

Required skills

• Operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers.
• Food preparation techniques including chopping, portioning, measuring and mixing.
• Food safety practices, temperature monitoring and hygiene standards.
