Consultant Emergency Medicine

About the role

The Consultant Emergency Medicine will lead and supervise high‑quality, evidence‑based emergency care within a multidisciplinary hospital setting. This senior clinical role involves direct patient management, mentorship of junior staff, and active participation in on‑call rotations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive emergency care: examine patients, take histories, order and interpret investigations, prescribe treatments, and develop care plans.
• Lead ward rounds and manage both inpatient and outpatient emergency cases.
• Supervise and train junior medical staff, including residents and general practitioners.
• Collaborate with other specialties and support services in multidisciplinary meetings.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis.
• Document all clinical information accurately and ensure compliance with hospital, departmental, and DOH policies.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, clinical audits, and risk management initiatives.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, obtaining informed consent for procedures.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent degree with a recognized specialty training program (Board Certification, Royal College Fellowship, or equivalent).
• Postgraduate qualification such as MD, MS, or DNB is preferred.
• 3–7 years of post‑specialty clinical experience in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Valid DOH (Department of Health Abu Dhabi) license or eligibility to obtain one, including primary source verification and DOH exam.
