Consultant Pediatric Vascular Surgery

About the role

SKMC is recruiting a Consultant Pediatric Vascular Surgeon. The consultant leads and supervises the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care for patients within the specialty, manages inpatient and outpatient cases, and takes responsibility for the clinical activities of junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, manage and treat patients; conduct examinations, take detailed histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications and therapies, and lead ward rounds
• Supervise and instruct specialists, GPs and residents, and take part in multi-disciplinary meetings
• Provide out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays
• Document clinical information accurately and in a timely way, and comply with hospital, departmental and DOH policies, including infection control and patient safety
• Take part in clinical audits, peer review and risk management, and communicate with patients and families while obtaining informed consent

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent from a recognized medical school, followed by a structured specialty training program (e.g. North American or European board certification, Royal College fellowship, or equivalent from a DOH-approved Tier 1 or Tier 2 country); a postgraduate qualification such as MD, MS or DNB is generally required
• Minimum of 3-7 years of post-specialty clinical experience in a recognized multidisciplinary setting; gaps longer than two years need DOH approval or a return-to-practice program
• Valid DOH license to practice in Abu Dhabi, obtained through primary source verification, the DOH exam (unless exempted) and a good standing certificate
• Fluency in English and Arabic; other languages are an asset
